The CHARMED Life

As the year drew to a close, we found inspiration in a design newsletter…

FOR SCALE has a prescient name and a devastating manifesto. But the main show is the royal We who narrates adventures in decor with generous use of text modifiers. Its signature BOLDING, capitalization, *underlining*, and glyphs, used in combination to set off at least one phrase in every sentence, envelops you in its snuggy logic. FOR SCALE doesn’t tell you what to look at or how to see (the typical purpose of design critique). It allows you for the duration of each post to sustain the conceit that WE ARE VIEWING THE WORLD TOGETHER. Its twirling affect is not to be confused for bias affirmation. The plodding tedium of the latter, with its stale statements stacked like bricks, sank one platform this year and with any LUCK will bring down a few more in the New Year.

FOR SCALE also has unusual takes. What makes Them so interesting? A theory: They (and We by proxy) *finally* unbridle queer sensibility from identity and allow it to gallop through everyday life. Queer finally ascends beyond a demographic to A WAY OF BEING IN THE WORLD. Yes, systems gonna cis. But FOR SCALE reminds us that no one accepts every assignment. Look carefully, keenly enough and even the most coherent and recognizable interiors break style rules.

The WE in our collective “I” aspire to SCALE UP and proliferate this queer CHARM. Will it work on anything? Fossil fuel dependency? Global energy consumption? Shale markets? We think so. Queer Life, meet Tight Oil.
